The Lower Zambezi gives you two ways to see a safari: from the vehicle, and from the water. On Zambia's bank of the Zambezi, woodland and floodplain sit below an escarpment, with Mana Pools across the river in Zimbabwe.
Let the river set the pace
Elephant, buffalo and waterbuck use the valley floor and river edges. A guided boat outing gives a completely different angle, while drives take you deeper into the bush. Some camps also offer canoeing or fishing. Check what your camp actually provides; being on the river doesn't mean every activity is included.
Choose your base carefully
Ask whether the camp is inside the national park or just outside it, how transfers work, and how far you'll travel to activities. Location, guiding and the daily rhythm make more difference than the room.
Leave room in the plan
Give this part of your trip a few unhurried nights. Mix active mornings with time in camp. With children, check each activity's age rules first.
Tell us whether you're most drawn to photography, river time or simply a slower safari, and we'll shape a Lower Zambezi stay around it.
