Mana Pools: making time for the wild

A closer look at Zimbabwe's great river wilderness, and why it rewards a slower pace.

Mana Pools is part of a World Heritage landscape on Zimbabwe's side of the Zambezi. Floodplain, river and woodland support elephant, buffalo and predators, and the open, unfenced country makes it one of Africa's most remarkable parks.

Go beyond the checklist

It's tempting to arrive with one animal in mind. Leave space for the smaller things too: a bird call, the changing light, a herd moving through the trees. No sighting can be promised, and giving yourself time makes every day richer.

Match the experience to your group

If walking or canoeing appeals, talk to a qualified operator before booking about minimum ages, fitness, guiding and conditions. Families may want more vehicle-based activities and downtime. A romantic tented stay, a photography trip and a family holiday need very different plans.

Plan the journey in, not just the stay

For self-drive, check access, transfer times and whether your vehicle suits the route and season. For a lodge stay, compare the whole journey from your previous stop. Keep a healthy buffer between a remote camp and an international flight.

Mana Pools deserves to be a place you settle into, not a quick stop between long travel days. Talk to us about Mana Pools.
